Mohammedan Sporting Club, founded in 1891 at Kolkata, is one of the oldest and one of the most popular football clubs in India, with a support base in all parts of the country. The club currently plays in the I-League 2nd Division and the premier division of the Calcutta Football League (CFL). It also became the first Indian club to win the Durand Cup in 1940.

The Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia and the third oldest football tournament in the world. In 1888, the tournament started off as an Army Cup open only to the British Indian Army troops in India but soon it opened up to civilian teams. This year the Durand Cup is back in Kolkata which is known for its passionate football loving fans and their crazy enthusiasm for the sport.
